What is a botched surgery?

What does botched mean? It can be considered to be a slang term possibly from a TV show, but to me it reminds me of a butcher. Ultimately it's considered a bad surgery with detrimental results. The results are unnatural with complications that are technically dependent.

What are common botched procedures or botched surgeries?

The most common botched procedure I have seen from the non-surgical side would be Injections. Injections of Fillers and the most common Silicone Injection in the past that are very usual.

Botched lips from lip repair are very common which we will discuss in more detail later on how we repair them. Commonly we repair botched lips from silicone with an excision of the granulomas. We then readjust and repair the lips to ensure the natural curve and shape.

Repair of Bad Botox Injections

Another popular botched procedure is a Botox injection. Normally we see unnatural or frozen foreheads also lower position of the brows or malposition of the lateral part of the brows. We normally recommend having a consultation with us to determine the best course of action to properly repair a bad botox injection. We may have the patient wait to proceed with more botox or wait until the botox goes away before proceeding. Each case is unique.

Botched HA or Sculptra Injections

We usually see these injections to the cheek bones or to the mid-face. Dr. Varkarakis is able readjust and reshape the face by either adding more fillers or another procedure.

Botched Face Lift Repair

Face Lifts that have been pulled inappropriately or even pixie ears. A pixie ear is characterized by a pulled or tethered earlobe that appears attached to the side of the cheeks rather than hanging freely. This is a common result from a botched face lift and demonstrates that the Face Lift was not performed appropriately.

In theses cases, we readjust by placing more projection on the lateral cheeks with fillers or we can revise the procedure. When the patient has an ear pixie, we must reposition the ear with an appropriate ear procedure.

Botched Neck Lift Repair

Repairing a bad neck procedure can be from several causes. A common one we see is neck burns. In these cases, we will either redo the Neck Lift or some other profile procedure such as a Profound Radiofrequency Treatment to remove or eliminate scars.

Botched Breast Augmentation Repair

Many times we help patients who have had previous breast surgery with poor results. This includes:

  • exposed implants
  • malposition of the implants
  • deflated implants
  • scarring from previous breast surgery

In many cases we will remove the implants, create a new pectoral pocket and insert a newly shaped implant. The cause of these botched surgeries are most likely the placement of very large breast implants without appropriate consultation.

Botched Liposuction Repair

In the abdomen, we see patients who have had skin burns or many contractions from very superficial liposuction. Our Nutational Liposuction we feel is the best way to reshape the abdomen.

Botched Lip Lift Repair

Another procedure that we commonly repair are previous Upper Lip Lifts. many times too much skin was removed from the upper lip which results in an unnatural shape and curve. Ultimately this is not harmonious with the rest of the face, making the upper lip larger then the lower lip. We are currently publishing in various medical journals our unique approach to lip repair.
